Chrétien and the World

In September of 2022, the Bill Graham Centre sponsored a conference on the foreign policy of the Jean Chrétien governments, bringing together leading scholars and surviving participants in the making and conduct of Canadian foreign policy in the eventful years from 1993 to 2003. Presentations from that conference have now been turned into a book we have published with University of British Columbia Press, in the C.D. Howe Series in Canadian Political History, published in September of 2025. The contributions to this volume explore the major events of the period and demonstrate that under Jean Chrétien, Canada pursued a foreign policy that was more activist and coherent than previously assumed. This is the first book-length treatment of its subject, and we believe it will become a standard scholarly source.
